Privacy Policy

Overview

First Gear is built to collect as little personal information as possible. The First Gear app has no user accounts and no backend server: it runs entirely on your iPhone and Apple Watch, and the heart-rate, workout, and health data it uses never leaves your device.

First Gear is a product of Rubber Bands LLC. Rubber Bands LLC is the data controller for the information described in this policy, and "we" and "us" below mean Rubber Bands LLC.

This website (firstgear.run) is different from the app. It collects one piece of information, and only if you choose to give it: your email address, if you join the waitlist. This policy explains what the website and the app each do with information, and what we do not do.

The First Gear app

The app reads data such as your age, resting heart rate, heart rate during a session, and VO2 max estimate from Apple Health, in order to calculate your easy heart-rate ceiling and coach a session. This data is processed on your device and stored on your device.

There is no First Gear account, no sign-in, and no company server that the app sends this data to. We do not see it, store it, or have any way to access it. Deleting the app deletes the data it created.

This website

If you submit the waitlist form, we collect the email address you enter. We do not collect your name, location, or any other personal detail through that form.

The website also uses Plausible, a privacy-first analytics service, to see in aggregate how many people visit and which pages they read. Plausible does not use cookies and does not collect or store any personal information about you; see the section on cookies and analytics below.

How we use your email address

We use the email address you submit for one purpose: to send you a single email when First Gear launches. We do not send a newsletter, and we do not use your email address for anything else.

We use Resend, an email delivery service, to store the waitlist and send that email. Resend is the only third party that processes your email address; we do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone else.

Cookies and analytics

This website does not use cookies. Plausible Analytics, the service we use to measure site traffic, is cookieless by design and does not track you across sites or devices, which is why this site does not show a cookie consent banner.

Your rights and choices

You can ask us to remove your email address from the waitlist at any time by emailing support@firstgear.run; we will remove it promptly.

Because the app stores heart-rate and workout data only on your own device, there is no copy of it for us to access, export, or delete on your behalf. Removing the app removes that data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app and website develop, particularly around launch. We will update the date above when we do, and any material change will be reflected on this page before it takes effect.
